  1. Bobbi,

There certainly is something wrong about your question unless I have missed some aspect of energy producing products...

The category is "gas and electric issues" and that much seems appropriate.

I would consider "alternative gas" as being man-made gas, such as methane gas produced from organic waste matter fermenting or gasohol produced from corn or rice.  Yet, I am confused for what greenhouse gas may be relative to producing energy...

Also are there windmills generating electric power but the cost for an individual using this has proven impractable because of windmill cost and maintainance.  Major electric producing companies are doing well with windmill electric production but still require back up systems for times of low wind or no wind...

Solar electric is also un-dependable because of cloudy days reducing the sun energy emissions...

Alternative electric requires an extensive number of batteries for storage of electricity for distribution which adds to the cost and maintainance

    factor...

There are several experimental sites around the country that produce methane gas by fermenting organic waste, however, altho successful, there appears insufficient waste to make this a dependable source of energy to support a large population...

Producing gasohol from corn is an ongoing business today but automobile engines are unstable for consuming percentages of that exceeding ten percent corn fuel blended with regular gasoline.  Changes are being made now for automobile engines to permit a higher percentage of corn fuel or rice fuel.  However, miles per gallon of a high percentage of gasohol will be less than miles per gallon of gasoline.  Thusly, the tradeoff seems not one of endearment...especially if corn or rice fuel reveals further problems with automobile use...

As for costs of energy...they do fluctuate from one state to another and a good rule of thumb would be to feel natural gas is cheapest, propane gas is twice the cost of natural gas and electric three times the cost of natural gas...

It will vary, as said, and many will not agree only because they do not do their homework...  Do not believe everything you read or hear...

I have been heating a 30 gallon propane gas water heater for 20 years, requiring no maintainance, and it consumed 20 gallons of propane per month.  When propane doubled in cost three years ago I investigated electric hot water.  The electric companies said they were going to hold the line for increase costs to four percent.  I threw away a perfectly good gas water heater and installed an electric one that cost twice as much as a propane gas one...  I bought a 40 gallon electric tank, as recommended, with an energy efficient computer smart box and triple lined insulation...

Well, electric that year increased eight percent...twice than expected...last year electric increased fourteen percent and this year now at nine percent...

Meanwhile, the computer smart box on the water heater has been replaced three times at seventy-five dollars each time plus having a few days with no hot water at all.  I have had to replace one heating element at a cost of twenty-three dollars.  And now, I have forty gallons of water to keep warm instead of thirty gallons and my costs have doubled for electric hot water while my maintainance has skyrocketed...!!!

In otherwords, electric is still our most expensive energy regardless of advertising...not only in consumption, but also of the maintainance of the products using it...

I was better off using propane and will never again believe anything claimed by the electric companies...!

I do hope this is helpful for you...

  2. Not sure what all your asking but this is what i do . I buy broken solar cells mainly off of eBay and i figured out a way to put them together very cheaply. I have a few pics in my 360 explaining how i do it . For hot water i got an instant propane hot water heater off eBay fairly cheap it heats to 150 degrees plenty hot enough i get around 40 hours off a 20 pound tank that's plenty of hot showers. OK now for heat again i turned to eBay love eBay you can find just about anything in there anyway i got an army tent heater . This thing will burn wood, oil, kerosene ,diesel fuel and gas its great . You can find wood just about anywhere it doesn't have to be trees it can be old 2x4 or anything that's made from wood and i go around to service stations and collect there used motor oil some places are happy to give it to you. You have to filter it before burning it or it will plug up the carburetor on the burner no big deal .I heat 5 rooms with it . You can also cook on it and i do all this in the middle of the city . I have no bills other then a water bill and taxes . Almost living free. You just have to use your imagination a little bit . I save a tun of money not paying the gas and electric company.

Oh I cook with propane in the summer if I'm not barbecuing winter i cook mainly on the army tent heater
