how can I change from pre-payment meters to direct debit for my gas and electricity

  1. You will need to contact your current supplier to request the exchange of meters.  They will carry out the relevant credit checks and may request a security deposit in some cases (typically £180), which is refundable once they have established that you are a good payer at the end of the first 12 months following the exchange.

    The supplier may also insist you pay be direct debit or other monthly installment plan.  Remember that a 'normal' meter is a credit meter so you are always paying in arrears as with credit cards & loans etc.

    Be aware that it can take up to a month for the exchange request to be completed,


  2. If you are not in debt with your suppliers, then all you need to do is contact them to change the meters.
