Question:

Gas central heating problem

I turned my room thermostat down very low but I still have hot radiators, so switched off my heating switch (programmer) hoping that would stop heating house during the summer. It's been 2 month my radiator is still hot. I am playing with the thermostat and it does not make clicking noise either. All I want is to stop house getting heated during summer, such a waste! Please anyone help me. What's wrong with it?

  1. If it is a combination boiler the installer may have used one radiator as a heat link or bypass,if it has a valve on the radiator turn it off but if the boiler shuts down for hot water you will have to turn it back on and get an engineer to fit a proper bypass on the boiler, hope this helps.

  2. Mr P is on the right track, but with limited information its impossible to give you a correct answer. It does sound like a valve has stuck or is passing.I don't think its a fault with the room stat or the programmer as one will override the other and switch the heating off when neither are calling for heat.

The only way to solve this problem is by phoning a corgi registered heating engineer to diagnose and repair the fault.

  3. Thee should be a motorised 3 way valve that shuts off your radiators from the hot water loop. It is very possibly stuck open. Usually there is a manual override lever - find it (usually by boiler or hot water tank) and move the lever to 'closed'.

You may need an elecrician or heating engineer to locate the source of the problem - Thermostat/ connection/ valve.

  4. Yes, for now turn off the breaker to the boiler.

For what it's worth the thermostat triggers a circulating pump and if the circulating pump is running then the boil will make sure the water stays at 120-180deg.

In any case it sounds like the thermostat is not going off.

You may need an HVAC tech. familiar with hot water heat.

    .

  5. turn off the source of electricity, it cant possibly operate then, after

which call out an electrician, its the programmer /stat or both

  6. Is there a button on the boiler to turn of the heating or it just works by thermostat then maybe it's faulty. You may have to get a profesional in,I wouldn't mess about where gas is concerned
