Get a smaller car! That's pretty much the best way. Or, you can always by those new eco-friendly cars that you dont have to pay too much gas because its half electrionic.

Also, try not going out too often. :)

1.  Proper inflation of the tires

2.  Take all excess weight out of the car

3.  Slowly accelerate

4.  Keep rolling, try to time the traffic lights

5.  Keep your speed down

Go slow, don't change lanes, try to idle through rush hour instead of worring about others cutting you off.

Stick to the highway's and avoid going over 60 mph.

Time your drive through towns and see if you can avoid coming to a complete stop at red lights.

Drive smart.

Slow down.    The faster you drive,  the more your burn.   Best mileage comes just after the shift into high gear.

More following distance.   Allows you to see further ahead and plan.   No more racing to the next light to stop,  if it is red or amber now,  coast in.    Avoid stopping and having to get going again,  but never run a light or stop sign.

Accelerate like you have a fresh egg between your foot and pedal.   You use more gas gaining speed than anything else.

No idling.    You get -0-  mpg at idle.    No drive-thrus,   no leaving it run while you get loaf of bread.  

Plan your trips to do as many things as you can in one trip.   Park in a central location and walk to different errands when possible.    Saves gas,  gets you excercise.
