Gas hot water not hot enough?

i have a gas junkers hot water system -the specifications are HGC 82 mj /t p press 1.00Pa / injector 2.30mm and is on natural gas. ive been away for several months and things seemed to have changed in my absence. I've turned the temp lever as far as it will go to the right to "select" "more heat less water" - well i think thats what its doing- the diagram on the actual lever is upside down according to the instructions on the heater! anyway if i move it all the way to the left and turn the hot water on, the pilot light remains on but doesn't burst into flames, so i guess all the way to the right would indicate the reverse, that is, as soon as the tap is turned on, the pilot light bursts into flames. trouble is the water is not hot enough. it is hot in the laundry which is in the same spot as the gas hw system, but upstairs in the shower/kitchen etc. the water is warm. probably just hot enough to have a shower (sort of) but not hot enough to do dishes. do i need a new hws?

  1. It sounds like it may be the cold water inlet tube is broken. This pipe starts at the top of your tank and directs the cold water to the bottom of the tank so the hot/cold temps don't readily mix. If this tube is broke...the hot/cold meets in the middle or top of the tank and will mix and result in "not hot enough". Look at the date of manufacture on the labels, it's there by law. If the unit is 10 years or older...you may consider a new one.

  2. For a gas heater to burn evenly and efficiently, it must have an ample supply of combustion air. If a gas water heater isn’t heating water, check the pilot light; Remove the outer and inner access panels to make sure the pilot is lighted. If you can’t get the pilot light lid, the thermocouple may be worn out.

  3. you may need to flush your hw tank. There should be a drain port near the bottom of the tank. You can either attach a hose to this or bucket by bucket. You may have alot of sediment in your tank. You should also have a temp guage on your tank. Like for instance a dial that says low, hot, very hot etc... If this doesn't work a call into the plumbers is the next thing. For you'll have to have a licensed plumber to install a hot water tank.
