Gas is $4.25, car gets about 25 miles per gallon, the trip is 140 miles, how much should i charge for 3 people

5.6 x 4.25 = $23.80 in gas.

I'm guessing 4 people total, since you have to count your share too, so...

23.80/4 = $5.95 per person in gas.

If the trip is 140 miles and the car gets 25 miles per gallon, then you divide 140 into 25 and get 5.6 gallons, so approximately 6 gallons of gas will get you 140 miles in distance. Now you need to multiply the 6 gallons times $4.25, so the gas will cost  $25.20.  $25.20 divided by three people is $8.40.  Each person should pitch about $9.00.
