Question:

Gas not working?

I live in an apartment and since Wednesday, my gas range has not been working. Neither the burners nor the oven will light. On Wednesday, the landlord sent repairman, but they only replaced the range, which did not solve the problem (replaced on Friday). While testing the range, they saw that no gas was coming out the gas pipe between the wall and the range. They didn't know how to fix it. A few hours later, a technician came to check the meter for my unit, but it was working. So I called Washington Gas Co. and they said that there was nothing they can do. (They wouldn't even send any of their people out to check!) I payed my gas bill on time, I mean it's freakin' less than $10, and no one seems to know what the problem is! I just want to be able to cook hot food, because cold food and the microwave only leaves so many options. Your solutions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. that is strang that not even the light would work ,but they might want to check the gas line that goes from the wal to the stove to make sure their is nothing clogging it up.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Jump up and down, demand some service. Stop paying rent , make you land lord do some work and get it fixed

  3. call to professionals

  4. Go to your gas meter, check the valve on the pipe coming out of the ground, there is a k**b that is about 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inches. if this is in a horizontal position it is shut off. It must be in the vertical or in line with the pipe to work. If off use a wrench or pliers to turn it. Some stoves are required to be plugged into a wall outlet because new ones have an electric spark instead of a pilot light.

If the electronic spark has no power, the safety will not allow gas to flow to burners.
