Question:

Gas or electric smoker?

I am looking to buy a smoker (not a grill - I already have one of those). I do not want a charcoal because despite the excellent taste, I have been warned off by friends that have them due to the extra work of trying to regulate the temperature during cooking. I am leaning toward electric as I am not aware of any benefit that gas offers other maybe than portability (i.e. I could take the smoker and the propane tank with me if I wanted to) plus I would never have to be concerned with the tank running out midway through the process.

I wanted to see if any gas or electric owners out there had any input. Which do you have…are you happy...which would you get if you were going to buy one again?

Thanks.

  1. I have had both. I am on my 2nd electric smoker. They are just tooooo easy. Gas is too difficult to fool with.

P.S......I have a Brinkman. I paid about $40 for it. I have been using the same one now for over 10 years. I smoke pork roasts, ribs, chops, chicken, turkey, sausage, even burgers. I throw a piece of pecan limb in for real smoke.
