We have a Crosbey Gas range and it wont light, the pilot light is lit and when you try to turn the oven on another little burner kicks in which apears to heat a wire element. I am guessing that the element need to heat up and that turns on the gas to the rest of the burner, if i am right what can i do to fix the problem.

  1. I've never seen a range with both pilot and electric ignition. My element went out on my gas oven last year and it was extremely easy to replace one s***w and plug it in. Cheap too, much cheaper than calling out an appliance repair man. Look in your phone book for an appliance parts supply, take them the make and model of your range and I bet the guy at the counter can tell you exactly what to do.

  2. You are exactly right. The set up keeps the oven from being either accidentally or intentionally turned on emitting only gas. You could take the make, model and serial # to an appliance parts store to buy a new sending device, but you're really better off hiring a pro to diagnose the problem, order the part and installing it correctly.

  3. The little wire is the safety valve, try tapping it with the handle of a s***w driver most cases it will turn on the main burner, the safety valve is sticking!
