Question:

Gas prices and wind fall profits tax on air?

Most gas stations now charge for air to inflate tires, and profit margins (profits and profit margins are two very different things)on air are much higher than on gas. So was Obama's suggestion merely a plan to tax windfall profits on air, which they (gas and oil companies) will add back to the price, meaning we will pay the tax?

Actually, depending on which study you read, for every 5mph you drive over 60, in effect, adds 15-30 cents to the price of gas you buy as it decreases your mpg by as much as 40%. Thus driving 75-80 is like adding almost one full dollar to the cost of gas per gallon, while driving at that speed. Also adding anything from luggage racks to bikes, to bug defectors, even antenna's can alter the cars aerodynamics considerably. And keep in mind, the more gas you use, the more tax the government makes. Thus it is in their best interest you use more, not less gas.

Although proper tire inflation is important, there are many much better ways to improve fuel efficiency. So was the tire inflation suggestion merely a scam to get more taxes out of us?

  1. No, I do not believe it was that at all.

  2. No I dont think the charge was Obama's  idea, but it probubly is the idea of the gas stations owner, after all, they have to make more money too. you know that most of the profits from the gas is going to the oil companies like Shell,  mobile or the big one exxon.  I think we have plenty of oil but the gov. and  the oil companies can make more money if we have a false shortage.  April
