I just moved to Maui from Oahu. On Oahu the price for 87 is about $3.30 per gal. Here on Maui its $3.85 . Whats the most simplified reason for the huge jump in price. The islands are close, so either way, gas must travel on Barges right??

  1. The reason is that demand overwhelms supply.

As you know Maui is a small, tourist-oriented island having greater tourists-to-residents ratio but fewer public transportation than Oahu. Because of this, fuel consumption is high, while the local gas stations don't seem to be able to supply the need.

  2. look into making your own fuel! ethanol can be made from almost anything

  3. Oil companies price it as they want.  Use any excuse to raise price. Lame war in Iraq?

  4. $3.30! you guys have got it good! over here in england we pay just over $9 for a gal of diesel. try working out why it is so much more expensive over here :-)
