It lights up and operates normally, but after 1 minute up to 20 minutes it just stops. The gas also stops, so it's not dangerous.

I think it's a thermostat problem. Can I be sure, and can I buy a replacement thermostat in Sydney?

Thanks

  1. Modern gas heaters come with a safety device called an oxygen sensor. If it gets dusty, as they do over the summer or after a years use, it will shut the gas off and will not re-lite until it reads 21%oxygen. In the bottom of the heater where the gas line enters the heater, there is a gas valve, a pilot light or electric pilot. if there is any webs or dust around any if it just vacuum it real good and give it another try.

  2. Most gas heaters have a thermocouple (heat sensor) .It's purpose is to cut off the gas if the flame goes out. It is not uncommon for them to go bad . I would replace that first as they are inexpensive and easy to change.

I have had similar problem with gas furnace and water heater

  3. What color is the flame? If you see any yellow or orange any where(especialy pilot) clean that hole.

  4. not sure, but uhh... yeah it must be really cold where you are. it was 99 degrees today where i am....
