Gas usage in cars?

Okay, might sound dumb but i'm curious...Do you use as much gas on a straight-a-way if you are coasting than if you are actually pushing on the gas?

As long as you dont loose too much speed you are saving gas. If you have to accelerate hard to get back up to speed you are defeating the savings.
