Gasol reaches Statistical Perfection as the Lakers Clinch their Victory against the Warriors
The Los Angeles Lakers easily breezed out of the cold spell that they were bound to during their defeats at the hands of the Denver Nuggets and then the Phoenix Suns. It was in Staples Center that the Lakers took their 117-89 victory over the Golden State
Warriors with such a huge margin.
Pau Gasol was as usual the knight in shining armor who always leads his team past the rambling grasps of the enemy. Pau Gasol is now one of the three players in the history of NBA to reach this level of statistical perfection. Sir Charles or Charles Barkley
a former NBA player reached this level 22 seasons ago whereas Matt Barnes reached it two days ago.
Both Barnes and Gasol are from the same team and yet they are not making judgments on who did it better.
Gasol’s charm mesmerized everyone sitting in the arena as he scored 28 points and did not miss a single shot. Kobe Bryant played really well too and scored 20 points for the Lakers who took a 30 point lead in the first half.
Pau Gasol scored 10 for 10 from the field. He hit 8 for 8 from the free throw line and grabbed nine rebounds while going for five assists.
Quotable
“Matt told me, ‘Welcome to the club,”’ Gasol exclaimed. “I said, ‘Happy to be in there.’
It’s kind of weird that it happened that way. It’s weird, but it’s obviously a good sign.” Generously put up by a player who doesn’t even show off that he is already a legend.
Barnes on the other hand had scored 24 points, hit seven shots and five 3-pointers without missing any while playing against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night.
Barnes must have been impressed with Gasol’s fast pick at the record as he later said pointing towards the 7 foot tall Spaniard.
“He was playing against little midgets, though,” Barnes said. “That’s not something you play for, but 10 for 10, 8 for 8, he topped me. It’s amazing.” He said as he praised his teammate.
Lamar Odom scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lakers. The Lakers had only hit 66 percent of their shots by halftime. It was a good laugh for the spectators who were definitely uncertain of their 12th victory out of the 14 games that
they have played up till now.
The Warriors are already in a sorry state as they faced fourth loss in their five games Sunday night. Dorell Wright made 16 points on 5 of 17 shooting whereas Stephen Curry added 13 to the box.
The Los Angeles Lakers had a grip on the game from the very first quarter of the game. They pulled away the first quarter from the Warriors efficiently with a 19-7 run. The lead was already in their side of the court in the last minute before halftime with
69-39.
Jeremy Lin made his career high 13 points in 18 minutes for the Warriors. The Warriors point guard Monta Ellis made five points in a 2 of 10 shooting. Although he couldn’t make it further in the early third quarter after he fell down and got up only to be
holding his left hip.
Definitely Disappointed
“You can block them out, but they’re just tipping to each other, so it’s really hard to get those rebounds,” Andris Biedrins who scored nine points and nine rebounds for the Warriors said referring to the Lakers performance. He said that this was
the reason they went down so many points. He added that they couldn’t get the rebounds, and that the Lakers were tipping in and getting second chance points for themselves.
