  1. Google "wwii gas rationing" - you will find some very interesting personal accounts.

  2. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm rations.

  3. I haven't heard the word mentioned.

During WW II, gas rationing was in effect.

The average person received 5 gallons per week.  Stamps were issued for this.

Doctors had unlimited gas.  Some made house calls in the old days.

Bear in mind that the military had to have all the fuel they needed.

The trucking industry was nothing near what it is today.  Long distance shipping was done by trains, which were powered by coal.

  4. Back in the 70's,when they rationed gas,I worked at my dads gas station and the oil company would allot us only a certain amount of gas for each month.they would give us what we had sold the previous year/month.in other words, last may you sold 130,000 gallons of gas in the month, thats all you get this may,and so on.

So we had to figure how many gallons of gas we could sell each day in order to stay open for the entire month without running out.

Based on that figure,we had to ration gas, some days/months it was $5.00 per car, other times it was say 10 gallons etc..

When the quota was reached for that day,we stopped selling gas.

Ppl ahd waited in lines for hours to get gas and sometimes were turned away...they would leave their cars lined up in the street on the side and come back the next day when we opened and get gas.

Others ran out while waiting, had to push the car thru the long lines.

We were threatened /got into fist fights.

It came down to we had to have the police there when we closed in order to keep the threats /fights eliminated.

the stories you hear about how ppl would react if there was suddenly a shortage of something are certainly true.

It will bring out the worst in ppl when they feel they need something to "survive'.

Our lives do rely heavily on oil (gas).

Hopefully a new president can turn this around.

  5. No websites that I know of but one little tid-bit.

Gas doesn't keep. You have to put a stabilizer in it or it will turn to varnish. Then it is useless.
