Inter defeated the minnows 4-1 in a pre season friendly on Wednesday, July 20th, 2011. Gasperini deployed his new 3-4-3 formation with Sneijder operating in the central midfield role while Alvarez on the left.
The former Genoa boss is delighted with his teams display and believes that it will help the players to loosen before the season begins. He added that the game served the purpose of the players knowing each other in the new system
of the club. Gasperini also hailed performance of Sneijder and believes that his hunger to perform showed that he really wants to stay with the Italian giants.
The Dutchman has been linked with a move to English Champions, Manchester United, recently, but the manager wants to keep his prized star at San Siro.
Talking to the reporters Gasperini said, “This game closes the first part of pre-season training, which served to get to know each other. Our legs were a bit heavy due to the fitness work we’ve been doing, but it was also a good
performance in some respects."
“Sneijder does very well in the centre and was the freshest player on the park. Seeing him play with such hunger is encouraging, as he’s doing what we need right now.”
The 53-year-old also hailed club’s new signing, Ricky Alvarez, and added that the youngster has shown immense promise in just few days from his arrival. The tactician added that the playmaker has adjusted extremely well in the
Inter system and showed great character throughout the game.
“In just a few days we have catapulted him from one style of football to another that is very different."
The Nerazzurri are looking to re-claim their top position in the Italian football after losing out to A.C Milan for the Scudetto last season. They will kick start their new season with a SuperCoppa Italian game against Massimiliano
Allegri’s men.
