Hi I have GER. I'm starting to take my medicine. how much time until my throat goes back to normal from the damage of GER.

  1. It depends on how fast you heal. It takes at least a couple of weeks for your esophagus to get better--but you should have an endoscopy at least once after you heal up to check for a condition called "Barrett's Esophagus" which is caused by GERD, and can lead to cancer.

    this is a condition that needs to be monitored at least yearly if not more. Check with your doctor.


  2. I also have GERD. As soon as I noticed something was wrong, I saw my doctor and have been on medication ever since. I don't know if it is possible to reverse the damage you already caused to the lining of your esophagus. The excess of acid may have caused irreversible damage, but you need to ask a doctor who will probably refer you to get an upper GI done in order to see how bad the damage is.  



  3. This may depend on medication you are taking.  If taking Rx, particularly Nexium, I have found that the longest it takes is five days, each day getting progressively better.
