Gatewood and Geelong Cup, All amazing
In the presence of thousands of sport lovers, the British bay colt, Gatewood, marvellously accomplished the ace title of Centrebet Geelong Cup at Geelong racecourse on October 24, earning great honour to his trainer, John Gosden, and new jockey Glen Boss.
The way the four-year-old veteran colt fought and won was really amazing and awesome. His victory proved to be a good news for the punters who had staked huge sums of money on him.
The high-stakes Group 3 race began at 6:00 (GMT). Over 1 mile and 4 furlongs, a total of seven strong runners were attempting for the ace title. The surface was good so each contestant had an ideal chance to show his/her utmost firepower.
From beginning to the end of the race, there was witnessed a head-to-head battle among Gatewood, Chateau Margaux and Brigantin.
There came a few moments when the 11-5 hot favourite candidate seemed to be struggling, but he did not lose heart and, finally, finished first by the narrow margin of ¾ lengths.
Peter G Moody’s Chateau Margaux stood second while the pupil of A. Fabre, Brigantin, grabbed third spot on the podium.
Back In Black came fourth while Maluckyday finished 5th. The sixth and seventh positions went to Tac De Boistron and Exceptionally respectively.
As a whole, it was an amazing contest that earned £193,000 to Gatewood. This was a matter of great honour for Gosden who had already gained 1st positing in the trainer’s rankings of the Great Britain Season 2012.
Boss was also greatly pleased with his first experience of Gatewood. After the race, he told, “This horse was straight on top of the speed very quickly when it come on. He is very good on his feet, he is very nimble. In our hustle-bustle racing you need
a horse who is quick on his feet and get you into a spot and get you out of a spot and he has beaten very good horses there."
Following the grand title of Geelong Cup, Gatewood is now preparing to test his credentials in the Melbourne Cup. Hopefully, he will prove his class once again. Good luck to the brilliant horse.
