Gatewood lands a glorious victory for Gosden, Buick in the Infinity Tyres Stakes at York
Gatewood, the four-year-old colt, pleasantly surprised his connections as he managed to bag a victory at York in the Infinity Tyres Stakes (Handicap) on 16th
May, 2012, where he was mounted by rider, William Buick.
The winning jockey was pleased with the victory, he commented on his race strategy and stated that:
"He impressed me today. My plan was to sit in behind the pace but he half reared as the stalls opened and I was further back than I wanted. But we went a really good gallop and I was afraid I was getting there too soon as he picked up so well coming
into the straight. He's done it nicely and he's probably got more left. "
John Gosden, who trains the bay colt stated that:
"That was very nice. He had a harder race than I would have wanted. It was his first run after a long break. He wandered a bit, but I hope there's a bit more to come.”
The son of Galileo, out of mare Felicity, did not let his lack of experience get in the way as he successfully broke all barriers, and comfortably crossed the wire first, 1 ½ length before the Ed Dunlop trained, Romeo Montague.
The George Strawbridge owned bay colt scored his second victory of his career, as the first one took place at Salisbury where he defeated the Mahmood Al Zarooni trained, Anatolian, by 3 ¾ lengths in the Jolly Property Services Maiden Stakes on 26th June,
2011.
The trainer stated that this was all because of George Strawbridge, who emphasised on the fact that the horse should be given time and dealt with patiently.
The connections are delighted with the way this colt has performed, and he is sure to deliver some smashing races in the future.
John Gosden and William Buick seemed to be particularly lucky as, The Fugue, also landed a major victory in the Group 3 Tattersalls Musidora Stakes, where she defeated race favourite, Twirl, by 4 ½ lengths.
About The Fugue, Gosden stated that he will run her in the Investec Derby only if the surface of the track suits her.
