Gatewood set to win Coutts Glorious Stakes (Group 3)
The John Gosden trained bay colt, Gatewood, seems to be confident enough to perpetuate his ongoing success streak by winning the high-profile race of the Coutts Glorious Stakes (Group 3) here at Goodwood racecourse on Friday, August 3. The Class 1 contest
is scheduled to start at 2:00 (GMT).
On the good track of 1 mile and 4 furlongs, the four-year-old young runner will face half a dozen strong rivals. If wins, he will be awarded £34,026.
The talented son of Galileo out of Felicity possesses an impressive track record. Debuting with the runner-up rank at Windsor on June 13, 2011, he broke his maiden in the very next outing named as Jolly Property Services Maiden Stakes. The event was held
at Salisbury on June 26.
With the dawn of 2012, the confident colt gained fresh momentum that led him to win three races in a row. After finishing first in the Infinity Tyres Stakes (Handicap) at York on May 16, the George Strawbridge bred runner grabbed two back-to-back victories
in the month of June.
Gatewood had been the hot favourite candidate for each of his last two starts including Investec Wealth & Investment Handicap of Epsom and Wolferton Handicap (Listed Race) of Ascot.
Thus, the three consecutive triumphs have spiked up the colt’s confidence level to a great extent along with making him the top contender for today’s marathon.
Gatewood will be able to thrive quite convincingly as none of his rivals is strong enough to hamper him. He has up to 95 chances to thrive.
Songcraft is too likely to do well today. The Saeed Bin Suroor trained bay gelding started his career in July 2011 and marvellously won each of his first four races. However, he dropped his form a little afterwards and finished 3rd in the 16-runner
event of the Dubai City Of Gold Sponsored By Skywards (Group 2) (Turf), held at Meydan on March 10, 2012.
The son of Singspiel out of Baya finished as the runner-up in his last outing entitled as Ambant Gala Stakes (Listed Race).
Songcraft will show enough resistance against Gatewood; however, he is not likely to go beyond the runner-up rank. Good luck to both the worthy contestants.
