Gatland thinks opposite to Henson, needs to prove himself for return
Gavin Lloyd Henson is of the view that it will take him just one to two games to come back in the Welsh national squad but Welsh national team Coach Warren Gatland does not want him to get a head of himself when he said he needs to perform
well and needs to show his fitness if he wants to be selected in Welsh squad, if he doesn’t then he will not be selected.
While speaking to media Henson expressed, “Welsh team missed me bit.”
"I really believe that I might only need one or two games to prove I've still got it and I think the Welsh team has slightly missed me a bit."
On the other hand Welsh coach said, his fitness and performance will be the base for his selection in national squad therefore this could actually be the beginning of a new quandary behind the curtains in the team.
"We know the quality of him as a player but he has been out of the game for a while. It will take him a while to get back and if his club form is not good enough, he won't be selected," said Wales coach Gatland.”
The 28-year-old Ospreys regional side player, who has also played for the British and Irish Lions, touring in 2005 to New Zealand, is out from rugby since injuring his ankle in an EDF Energy Cup defeat
against Gloucester in March 2009. And he has been on leave from his club Ospreys since last summer though he has contract with his current club until May 2011.
In his recent interview he revealed he wants to leave the Swansea-based club and wants to join any club in or nearer to London. The reason behind this is that he misses his two children who live in London with his former fiancée Charlotte
Church. He says my children need me and I want to be with them for most of the times. Further he said it is very difficult for me to spend time with my children as I live here for most of the times. He is currently appearing on 2 TV shows Strictly Come Dancing
and 71 Degrees North. He is hoping to make a rugby comeback and be part of Wales being in contention for the 2011 Six Nations and the Rugby World Cup.
There is news that Saracens is in talk with Gavin Henson for their club and their chief executive Ed Griffiths said yes there is contact between us and Henson for the contract. Matters make it seem that any final deal might be fine as
long as Henson joins Saracens. But it is too early to say anything with surety; so the wait for final decision has begun.
The official statement for that is, "It would be wrong to provide a commentary or update on negotiations with any one individual but I can confirm there has been contact between us and Gavin.”
Henson is famous because of his defensive qualities but currently Welsh defence is under huge criticism as their performance is not up to the mark. Jamie Roberts and James Hook are Wales' current first choice defence position player.
Although current Welsh defending players are not performing well nonetheless Gatland has articulated that Henson will only be added to the squad if he is worthy enough.
"There are a lot of players in the past that have been out for long periods of time with serious injuries but it is difficult to comment on Gavin unless you see him play and see what kind of shape he is in physically, that will be the
most important thing.”
"The only time I talk about Gavin Henson is if I have a newspaper or radio interview and I get asked by reporters otherwise Gavin hasn't been spoken about.”
Henson has not started playing rugby again until now and according to Gatland he will only star for the team when he will start playing proper rugby again in his full form.
"Until he starts playing rugby again, wherever that is, that's when we'll start potentially thinking about Gavin again and will he be involved in the Welsh frame."
Gatland has previously stated he wants Henson to return to playing by January if the centre wants to be considered for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand starting in September.
