After inspiring Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title, Gautam Gambhir is eyeing Indian cricket team’s captaincy.
The feisty left-hander has said that he is ready to lead team India, if such an option comes his way.
“It (captaining Indian team) is the biggest honour. I am ready for it. Ready for the responsibility of the challenge because you want to take different challenges as well. That's where your mental toughness and character will be
tested,” said the 30-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 lad.
The Men in Blue, under the stewardship of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, are on an eight match losing streak in Tests away from home. The wicket-keeper’s form with the bat is also a question mark.
Some voices started to question the leadership of Dhoni and these voices received a boost after KKR downed Chennai Super Kings (captained by Dhoni) to lift the IPL5 trophy.
Gambhir, who is a veteran of 48 Tests, is aware that critics are favouring him to take the realms from Dhoni. However, he said that captain alone cannot do wonders for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and he needs the backing of the whole team.
“I have heard of the talks but as I have said a captain is as good as the team. It's a successful team that makes a successful captain and not that a successful captain makes a successful team,” said Gambhir.
After nine years of international cricket, Gambhir has cemented his place in the Indian team. However, the left-hander still takes every match as the last game of his career and feels that he will lose his place in the contingent,
if he does not play well.
“Even at this stage, if I don't score runs in two or three game I start feeling that I am going to be dropped,” Gambhir told
Gambhir said that he tries his level best not to let any player in his side go through the same experience that he had to endure. Whenever, the left-hander is leading a side he makes sure players are given confidence regarding
their position in the roster.
