Gautam Gambhir rebuffs major changes to KKR playing XI after successive defeats – Cricket News Update
The Kolkata Knight Riders captain, Gautam Gambhir, on Monday played down the suggestion to bring some major changes to their playing XI after facing back-to-back defeats at the hands of Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at home, near the end of the
league stage.
“We cannot keep chopping and changing all the time. It affects the combination,” said the Knight Riders skipper after his side faced a last ball defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings on Monday, May 14, 2012.
“If a player is failing to perform, you need to keep backing him. As a captain, you need to give a player that confidence,” he added further.
Last night’s five wicket defeat was Kolkata’s second successive defeat in three days at home, and given the fact that seven of the total nine teams still have a chance to qualify for the tournament playoffs, the situation does not augur well for King Khan’s
Knight Riders. What makes it more fearsome for Gambhir and company is that they will play their ensuing two games of the league stage away from home, at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 on May 16 and Pune on May 19, 2012.
However, the KKR skipper is not too much worried about his team losing two games on the trot and is quite optimistic about the side making a turnaround in the next two games to confirm a berth in the tournament semis, starting in Pune on May 22, 2012.
“We are still third in the table and have two more games to play. It is just a matter of playing to our potential,” said the 30-year-old Delhi http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Anthony-Hibbert-c81005, who was appointed as the KKR skipper after team’s poor show in the first three seasons.
“The format is such that any team can beat any side on any given day. Every team has a chance to qualify. I have full confidence in the boys and we will turn things around in the next two matches,” Gambhir said at the media conference.
After finishing among the top four last season, the Knight Riders' under, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils.
