http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 reckons Sri Lanka have never been underestimated by his team – Cricket News Update
Talking about the ongoing series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, the Indian opener Gautam Gambhir believes that his team has never taken the Lankans lightly, and now that the five-match series in levelled one-each, the remaining tournament would be a treat for everyone.
“We have never underestimated Sri Lanka. They are a quality side. We have never taken them lightly. It should be a very good series from now on," said Gambhir.
Admitting his team’s poor show in the second One Day International (ODI), the youngster opined, “Our energy levels were not up for it. All of us were thinking that since we managed 300 in the previous game, we won the toss again, we were batting first in those flat conditions and thus we can again turn up and get 300-plus and try and restrict Sri Lanka. But then that is not the way you go into a game.”
He added that since India and Sri Lanka have been playing against each other a lot, both sides know how to tackle the other.
Refusing to predict the outcome of the five-match one-day series, he insisted that both sides are in great form and a match cannot be predicted before being actually played.
"You can't predict results If people are honest and give their 100 per cent, nothing else matters," said the Indian batsman.
India had a tremendous start to their ODI campaign in Sri Lanka by winning the opening match, however, the hosts bounced back in the second fixture, beating the Indians by nine wickets on July 24.
India are out to prove to the world that they are indeed a side that can win matches abroad as they have been criticised in the past for showing lack of commitment while playing outside India.
A series win in Sri Lanka would boost their ego that was fractured during the disastrous tours of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, where they failed to win a single match and also lost their number-one status in Test cricket to England.
Efforts in India are underway to improve the national team’s record on foreign soil in order to redeem lost glory.
