Gautam Gambhir, the prolific opening batsman of India has joined flamboyant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 in team India’s injury list.
He has been ruled out of the five-match One Day International series against South Africa which kicks off in Durban on 9 January 2011.
The 29-year-old left-handed batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 picked up the injury when a Lonwabo Tsotsobe ball hit his left elbow in the first innings of the third and final Test against South Africa in Cape Town.
The Delhi boy, who led a new-look India series in a 5-0 ODI series win over experienced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 side in December 2010, did not join his side in the field on the fourth day of the game and was seen sitting in the dressing room with a
splint on his injured arm. He had also missed the second Test of the three-match series at Durban, nursing his hand injury.
Sehwag is already restricted to the bench after he picked up a shoulder niggle. The absence of two key batsmen from the top order could jeopardise the chances of tourists to win their last ODI series ahead of the ICC World Cup 2011 which
gets underway in subcontinent from 19 February 2011.
Gambhir, despite having his arm splinted, is expected to bat in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s second innings on day five. In India’s first innings, Gambhir scored 93 runs as India reached 364 runs in reply to South Africa’s first innings total of 362 runs.
The injured openers would be rested from the five ODIs against the Proteas to give them enough time for recovery to ensure they are completely fit when India starts its World Cup campaign against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in Dhaka on 19 February.
26-year-old Chennai batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 is expected to replace injured Gambhir at the top of the order.
