http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 supports rotation policy – Cricket News Update
Opening batsman Gautam Gambhir has backed the Indian team’s rotation policy, claiming it has been justified following their 4-wicket win against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on February 12.
“For me, one or two individuals don't make a difference. It's about 11 people who have the belief that they can beat any opposition on that given day,” he said.
The controversial decision of the team management to rotate experienced openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739, and Gautam Gambhir has come as a result of the national team’s dismal performances in their last two overseas tours.
India lost the Border-Gavaskar Test series to Australia 4-0 at the beginning of February this year, and before that they failed to win a single match during their tour of England in mid-2011, where they also lost the Test series by a similar margin.
The policy has not gone down well, and has received a lot of criticism from experts. Former Indian players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607, Sehwag, and Gambhir, all of whom were
key figures in the 2011 World Cup win. Tendulkar ironically, remains one short of scoring his 100th International hundred since the mega event.
Other critics include Pakistan’s former all-rounder Wasim Akram, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s Channel Nine, who said that the
exclusion of star cricketers affects the viewership for matches.
However, with the team securing their first win against the hosts in the ongoing tri-series, Gambhir feels that the effectiveness of the policy has been proved.
"This XI had that belief that we can beat Australia today,” said the opening batsman. “For me this was the best playing XI. It's not about names, it's about people who can go out there and have that belief from No. 1 to No. 11. If they have the belief that
'yes, we can win this game', that's the best playing XI. You don't want names, you want people who can deliver. We have shown it, I think."
The left-hander also added that the rotation policy was necessary for a team with a schedule as full as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s, in order to keep the players fresh and at the top of their game.
Due to the policy, which had Tendulkar sitting out of the match on Sunday, Gambhir and Sehwag were able to establish a successful partnership, with the former going on to claim the Player of the Match accolade for his outstanding 92 runs.
The 30-year old went on to add that the policy was beneficial for new finds like pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SK-Raina-c2539.
