Kolkata Knight Riders’ victorious skipper, Gautam Gambhir, believes that it is the duty of the franchises rather than BCCI to act vigilantly over any off-field trouble caused by any of its player.
His comments came after the Indian Premier League 5 was marred with various controversies, including under the table dealings and molestation offences. BCCI came under heavy scrutiny over their running of the league but Gambhir said it is the work of the
respective franchises to control their players.
"It is the responsibility of the franchise to control its players," Gambhir said. "The BCCI can't appoint one person each to keep a watch over every player.”
Amid rumours regarding the exclusion of Kapil Dev from the beneficiary list, Rajiv Shukla, the IPL chairman, has clarified that the former all-rounder was indeed ignored owing to his involvement in the rival league, ICL, and his failure to accept
the amnesty offered by the board.
BCCI earlier awarded one-time benefits to many of its former yesteryear greats, the proceeds from the play-offs of the recently concluded IPL, but ruled out http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234 with Shukla clarifying that the ex-captain was not entitled to the 1.5 crore offered by
the board due to technical issues.
"As far as Kapil Dev is concerned, BCCI is not against him. We have not got anything against Kapil but there is a technical issue. He has not accepted the amnesty proposal (by the BCCI). Technically, he is out of this benefit ambit,” clarified Shukla.
