Gautam Gambhir’s participation in the Champions League T20 still in question – Cricket News Update
India’s aggressive opening batsman, Gautam Gambhir’s participation in the upcoming Champions League Twenty20 is still in doubt, as the final decision will be made on the coming Saturday, September 10, 2011.
Gambhir was ruled out of the ongoing One Day International (ODI) series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 following his vision problems. He picked up a concussion during the final Oval Test when he fell down nastily while running backwards to take a catch.
While the much-anticipated Champions League is about to begin, all eyes are on Gambhir’s possible comeback as he will be a valuable asset for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The Knight Riders are scheduled to play their first game of the qualifying round against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 on September 19, 2011. Since the KKR captain, Gambhir played a pivotal role in taking his side to the elimination final of the Indian Premier League (IPL),
and his return will be a massive boost for the troop.
He came under heavy criticism for his decision to play in the final clash despite suffering from a shoulder injury which eventually prevented him from joining the national side on the Caribbean tour.
According to sources, Gambhir will consult his doctors in the next few days and make a final decision about his involvement in the Champions League on the weekend.
"Gautam will be consulting his doctor (neurologist) on September 9 or 10 and decide on his participation in the tournament. It will entirely be Gautam and his doctor`s call. We can`t say anything at the moment," a senior KKR official said while talking to
media persons.
Despite the truth that the Delhi-born opening batsman is the backbone of KKR crew, the outfit has no plans to push Gambhir for taking part in the tournament.
According to the sources within the franchise, it will be entirely Gambhir’s decision whether he makes himself available for the championship or decides to rest. In the nutshell, the Shahrukh Khan-owned outfit is not interested in imposing any pressure on
the 29-year-old batsman as it may evoke yet another controversial debate over preferring club cricket despite injuries.
