Gauteng v Namibia - CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition - Day 3 – Live Score and Update
Namibia 264 and 136/8 (53.0 ov) v Gauteng 232 - Match drawn
The three-day match between Gauteng and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964 ended in a draw with neither side prepared to lose at Old Edwardians Cricket Club A Ground, Johannesburg.
While they did not win the match, Namibia were the better side as they first outplayed their opponents by hammering a decent first innings score of 264, followed by an impressive bowling performance where they were successful in halting the Gauteng innings on 232 runs with Viljoen doing maximum damage as he took five wickets in 22 overs.
Namibia, then ended their second innings with 15 runs on the board without losing a wicket on Friday, as they were set to give their opponents a run for their money the next day.
Saturday was a bit slow for them, as the opening pair was separated on 27 runs with the departure of I Opperman, who fell after scoring only 12 runs.
The partnership between HN Ya France and C Viljoen saw the team reach 42 with Ya http://www.senore.com/Cricket/France-c2899 taking charge.
However, this batting duo played its last just before the dismissal of Viljoen, who edged a delivery to Masondo off McGillivray after scoring only eight runs.
Number-four batsman, CG http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Williams-c98034, was disappointing as he had his stumps shattered by McGillivray without opening his account, leaving the side on 46.
With three wickets down, the batting side needed to rebuild the innings in order to prevent a disappointing end.
HN Ya France and skipper R http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 Schoor then played with some responsibility, as they halted the bowling onslaught, but kept the scoreboard ticking at the same time to prevent the bowlers from gaining an upper hand.
Gauteng needed to stop the steady flow of runs which was bringing Namibia back in the game. Finally, on the wicket of Ya France (25) this partnership was broken by de Vrye.
While the skipper stood defiant with a knock of 49 runs, the last five batsmen were prevented by Gauteng from scoring in double figures. With M Mutumbe still to come out to bat, they ended the day with 136 on the board for the loss of eight wickets.
