Gauteng v Northerns – CSA Provincial One-Day Competition, 2012/13 – Match Update
In what proved to be a fairly low-scoring game in the ongoing CSA Provincial One-Day Competition, Gauteng secured a 1-wicket win over the Northerns in their match at the Sir Lionel Phillips Ground at the Pirates Cricket Club in Greenside, Johannesburg, on
November 4.
Northerns won the toss and decided to bat first – however, Gauteng’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eddie-Leie-c55031 (8-0-21-2) ensured that the team was not allowed to post too high a total.
Only four of the Northerns’ batsmen were able to reach double-digit scores – opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mario-Wickus-Olivier-c74471 (12). The remainder of the batting order registered insipid
performances – skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shershan-Naidoo-c89998 and Eden Links contributed 5 runs each.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samuel-Fese-Mofokeng-c88365 on duck via run out in the 35th over, the Northerns found themselves all out at meagre final total of 114.
Gauteng’s own batting performance, in response, was hardly more impressive, but a solid display from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Devon-Conway-c53929 saw them through, despite the assaults of Olivier (9.2-1-22-3) and Links (10-2-20-3).
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Burger-c89654 (19) and Sizwe Masondo
(17) – were able to reach double figures.
Skipper das Neves was dismissed on duck by Olivier, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Etienne-Gerber-c56452 contributed 6 runs each after which both were sent back to the pavilion by Links. However,
by this point, in the 35th over, Gauteng were at 110 for 9, and a few final contributions from Matt McGillivray (8*) and Eddie Leie (1*) saw them over the finish line, enabling them to reach 115 with 1 wicket and 82 balls to spare.
