Gavaskar criticises Virender Sehwag’s body language – Cricket News Update
The former Indian Captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 for his lethargic efforts in the field during the ongoing final Test at Nagpur.
Sehwag attracted massive criticism from the former batsman after he was unable to grab a shin-height catch of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 (who was batting at 2 runs) during his second innings at VCA Stadium. However, the missed opportunity did not hurt the Indians as
KP (6) was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RA-Jadeja-c2238, after adding only a boundary to his name.
When asked if the criticism was justified, Gavaskar replied, “What's unfair? The man was just not bending. What do you expect in Test cricket, against spinners that the catches will come above the knee? The catches will invariably be around the knee or below
the knee. By him (Sehwag), standing in a way that he was, he didn't do any favour to the team.”
He added that getting the batsmen to edge was very difficult on the slow Nagpur wicket and when a created chance is put down, it de-motivates the bowlers.
“The bowlers, in any case, are finding it hard to get past the outside edge, and when that edge comes you find somebody whose balance is all wrong,” added the 63-year-old.
He further shared that Sehwag cannot be compared to the likes of former slip fielder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229, but his attitude was disappointingly complacent.
Earlier, Sehwag was put in the line of fire by Gavaskar for his dismissal on a duck during the first innings. He believes that the poor display by the 34-year-old is a real concern for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 at
Ahmedabad, the experienced Indian opener has not been able to score a single fifty in the 6 innings he has played so far.
Gavaskar hailed the aggression of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 behind the stumps.
He believes that is the attitude the Indian team requires at present, while discouraging the use of bad or derogatory words for the opponents.
India is currently on the verge of facing their biggest defeat in a Test series at home against England, in 28 years. Gavaskar feels the Men in Blue should learn to never underestimate their opponents.
