  1. The answer above me is exactly right. My guinea pig had 4 babies just over a day ago and she is still leaking a very small amount of blood. Two of my other guinea pigs have also had babies before and the same happened to them. Don't worry, it will soon stop.

  2. aj2008, I'm not a guinea pig owner, but look after my cockatiel, if ANYTHING UNUSUAL goes wrong or seems out of place i would take her to the 24 hr vet that  must be somewhere around. There is the Blue Cross at Victoria who would help. Remember you say you love your pet,  then don't hang around., even if its nothing at the end, its the satisfaction of knowing you have done something  that means a lot.

  3. Yes, this is normal and is just the remnants of the birthing process. Use a paper towel and gently wipe downward to help it come out.

After she delivered Georgie, she probably ate the placenta, which helps to stimulate her mammary glands to produce milk.

Be sure to feed her well at this time--she needs fresh green veggies, alfalfa hay, and of course, pellets & water, to keep her body in good condition and producing milk for her new pup. She will also be teaching Georgie to eat green veggies too! Georgie should be eating hay & pellets by tomorrow but will need to nurse from mum for 3 weeks. If Georgie is a boy, he will need to be separated from his mum at 21 days of age or you risk pregnancy again, which would be very very bad for the mum. If Georgie is a girl, she can stay with the mum indefinitely.

The mum will continue to leak a small amount of blood throughout the day. Give her a small carrot and congratulate her on her successful delivery!

  4. It is nothing to worry about she will clean herself up . Leave them both alone for a while so they have some time to get their strength

and have time to bond ! If she is still showing blood on Monday take her to the vet .

    Good luck

  5. each city should have an emergency 24 hour vet clinic.  Check the yellow pages...that should be checked out.

  6. Don't panic!! When my Guineapig had her second lot of babies she was bleeeding for a day or so and then got a nasty rash (but I don't think this was anything to do with the birth)! I didn't bother taking her to a vet it cleared up on it's own and I gave them a bath because of the rash but I don't think you will have to do this Just keep an eye on her and take her to the vet if it gets worse. But don't worry if you think about a lot of humans bleed after giving birth so why can't Guineapigs? She will be fine!

  7. Time for a reality check. What would you do with 8 babies?  If finding good homes were easy, rescues wouldn't need to exist. This is very wrong. Keep all 8 if you have 8 babies? Do you know what types of guinea pigs have a high degree of risk of producing a lethal? Once you breed a sow and a boar, what are you going to do with the mother and father? Are you prepared to significantly increase your cage space? You will need more food--both fresh food and pellets. You will need more time allocated every day and every week for cleaning more often with more pigs and more cages.

  8. It's probably the afterbirth, or placenta, coming out from your pig. You shouldn't really touch the baby until she is a few weeks old though!

  9. Im not perfectly sure,

But it could be the cord. If it is, dont worry the mother in every animal cleans up the cord. And sometimes eats it! :)

    Good Luck.

Take it to the vet to be sure though :)

    xx
