Question:

Gave blood and then threw up?

I gave blood and felt a little nauseous while giving it. They put a damp towel on my forehead and neck, and I started to feel better, my color came back, etc. They had me stay down a little longer and had me get up slowly. I walked over to the canteen with no problem, had some juice and raisins, and got up to leave. I started going down the escalator when I whited out almost completely, and my hearing went. Luckily there was a bench at the bottom of the escalator, and I sat there with my head back. I don't know how long I was there, but someone started shaking my knee and asked if I needed help.. I managed to get some words out, and they got the nurses back upstairs. When the nurses came down, I started to throw up. After I was done, my color returned, I could see again, and my hearing was back.

Can anyone tell me what happened? I did have my menstrual cycle at the time.

  1. It's normal for you to have felt sick... I have donated blood twice and i felt a little sick...But it really depends on the person when u are weak u tend too get a little more sick than a person who is stronger

  2. what you expirenced is called a "vazo vagel" thing (from doctors own mouth) aparently its very common after donating blood/plasma, it usually happens if u dont eat enough before u donate to keep up ur strength.

  3. Sounds like your blood pressure went down too fast. It could have been because you were dehydrated or nervous.

  4. This must be your first. It gets better the next time. Good job!
