A couple of days ago my husband and I were on craiglist website looking up cars and we found a NICE car 05 Solara SLE Convertible 35k miles and less than $5k!! We emailed the lady who was selling asking for more info, and she replied saying her husband had died and she had two kids no DL and needed to sell the car, that's why it was so cheap, she said we would use eBay's protection thingy to buy the car. We replied, this sounds too good to be true give us a VIN # or someway we can talk etc etc ... and ofcorse she replied with the VIN# and said that she was too busy with work and couldn't get in touch with us, but that the car was ready for shipping all she needed was our name and address. Well I went ahead and gave her our name and address ONLY! then i started looking up the car's info on eBay Motors to see if the car was in there for bidding, i couldnt find it so i got in touch with the live online cust service support and asked them if there was any way they could verify this and she said: If the car is not listed on eBay, there is no way eBay will be part of this and process payments. So I felt so stupid!! Because I did the research after I gave that person our cell number and our name and home address!!

So what do u think... i gave out too much info? Are we in any danger?? What can we do?? I'm panicking here!! i want to cry :((

  1. if anything the scammer wanted money, and im sure they wont go hunt you down since they probably are scamming alot more people so they wont want to get caught at all

  2. BIG SCAM!!!!! 05 solara convertible can easily be sold well over $22,000 no problem. $5,000 is kiddy games. I would not be too worry about knowing the address since everybody can find that out in a phone book. she can't do anything to you. call the police if she shows up at your house asking for a "down payment" or some cash.

  3. Well, you've learned that it was a scam. That's good, as you have not given out any money.

Giving your name and address only won't do any harm. If you think about it, there are plenty of websites (whitepages.com for one) where folks can get that, anyway.

  4. This lady was just out for money.  Having your name and address should not matter.  I would just for your peace of mind let your bank know.  I work at a bank and whenever someone gives out any personal information we can alert the account and request ID on all transactions.  This may be useful.

  5. If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. She wanted money.  Don't worry about it.  She could look up that info in a phone book.  Doesn't matter if she has your cell number.

  6. THATS IS THE SAME LADY!!!! she tried to do the same thing with me. but it was a smart car for 3,000 bucks. But she told us she just got a divorce but Everything else was the same the car is in a shipping yard ready to go. But my family and friends said it sounded fishy so i didnt give her my number. Do you know what her name was and we can see if it is the same lady but i think it is. I dont think that you are in any danger. But if i was you go to Autotrader.com i would not look at cars on craiglist unless they are close to your home.
