Gavin Floyd shines as Kansas City Royals lose to Chicago White Sox 2-3 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals lost to the Chicago White Sox 2-3 in a thrilling encounter at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Tuesday, September 18 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The White Sox continued their excellent winning streak to consolidate their position at the top of American League East Division standings table. Manager Robin Ventura will also be very pleased with what he has seen from his men in these closing stages of
the game.
On Monday, the White Sox edged past their arch rivals the Detroit Tigers. It will be a great surprise if they fail to lift their AL Central title from their current position.
Starting pitcher Gavin Floyd produced a match winning performance as he gave up just five hits and two runs in seven effective innings to grab his 10th win of the season. Floyd is an extremely talented pitcher. However, inconsistency has halted
his progress significantly since he made his MLB debut.
"I felt good out there," he said. "I just wanted to make as few pitches out there and let the defense work. It's great especially after sitting for 15 days and more than that before. It's nice to get back out there and just be part of the team and contribute."
"We're no way content," Floyd said. "We're content in the place that we are, but there's still a lot of baseball left. It's fun to be in the position we're at. We've just got to keep pushing."
"I know what I'm doing," Ventura joked. "He looked out of synch in Minnesota."
It will be interesting to see if he can bring consistency in his results to give himself the chance to win the American League Most Valuable Player Award. Relief pitcher Addison Reed also played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash for his 28th
save of the year.
Alejandro De Aza homered to right in the first inning to put White Sox on the board. Gordon Beckham and Alex Rios hit back-to-back home-runs to give White Sox a much needed victory.
