Another scintillating batting effort by former West Indian captain Chris Gayle, saw Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) score a comprehensive win over the winners of the first edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals.
Gayle, who has already smashed two centuries in the tournament, scored a breath-taking 70 off only 44 balls; his innings included 6 fours and 4 sixes. He was in brutal form for another night, plundering the hapless Royals attack to all parts of the ground.
Bangalore chased down the mediocre target of 147 in only 17 overs through the carnage by Gayle. Tillakaratne Dilshan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virat-Kohli-c95424 were mere spectators, however, they feasted themselves when ever an opportunity came.
Dilshan was the only man dismissed in the chase; he scored 38 off 24 balls. His innings included 8 fours, some of them stunning drives. Kohli was a calming influence once Dilshan perished, his assured knock of 39 runs came off 34 balls and included 3 fours
and 1 six.
Earlier in the day, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 got the Royals off to a fine start. The two added 73 runs for the opening wicket, however, both were dismissed in quick succession to leave their team in a hole. Rajasthan's middle order lacked the spine
to offer some solid resistance and the start was wasted. At the end of the stipulated overs, the Royals could only manage a meagre return of 146 runs.
The biggest disappointment for the Royals management was the lack of a long innings from a top-order batsman, the top-order got the starts but failed to convert them into any thing solid, much to the dismay of the Royals team.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sreenath-Aravind-c2559, with 3 wickets, was the pick amongst the Bangalore bowlers, while Gayle and Charl Langeveldt chipped in with a wicket apiece.
At the end, the chase was completed with out much stress at all, much to the delight of the Bangalore management.
