Gayle urges teammates to adapt to Sri Lankan conditions quickly – Cricket News Update
Talismanic West Indies opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 on Wednesday urged his teammates to adapt to the playing conditions in the subcontinent as quickly as possible, ahead of the World T20 Championship, starting in Sri Lanka next week.
“We’re away from home and we’ve to adapt to the conditions as quickly as possible,” said Gayle during a media encounter after a practice session in Colombo yesterday. “We want to make a solid start and look to put the other teams under some pressure. I’m
really looking forward to it,” the left-hander went on to add.
West Indies T20 squad, boasting of a number of international T20 stars, including Chris Gayle, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KA-Pollard-c1754 and the Bravo duo, has been tipped as pre-tournament favourites. The Caribbean contingent also has a fierce pace attack, including likes of Kemar
Roach and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869, who could be West Indies’ trump card in the spin-friendly sub-continent conditions.
Gayle, the 32-year-old Jamaican all-rounder, said that they have got a well balanced attack, which is capable of reaching the tournament final. However, he warned his side against complacency.
“There are a lot of competitive teams here. Every team has a chance to win,” said the left-handed top-order batsman, who also bowls valuable right-arm off-spin. “There’s not going to be  any walkovers. No one is going to take anyone for granted and we have
to be at our best at all times,” the former Windies skipper insisted.
West Indies have been drawn with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 (September
13) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 (September 17), before their tournament opener against the mighty Aussies, at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, on September 22.
In the previous edition of the T20 World Cup, held at their home, in 2010, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 were eliminated from the Super Eight Stage. But Gayle was confident of reaching at least the semi-finals this time around.
“We want to get off to a good start and...be there at the end when the semi-finals and finals are played,” the Jamaican star concluded.
