Gayle will be eager to perform: Pollard – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, scheduled
to kick off on June 16 at Southampton.
“Chris is a world-class. He has proven himself over the years,” Pollard said. “I am a youngster and ... I get the opportunity to play alongside him in the same team. It is fantastic. He has been out for a while so he will be hungry to go out there and perform.”
Gayle will be returning to play for the national squad after a public spat with the West Indies Cricket Board led to him being sidelined by selectors for a period of up to fifteen months. He last played for the national side during the 2011 World Cup, when
the West Indies lost the quarter-finals against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
Following the tournament, Gayle was left out of the squad for a limited-overs series against Pakistan, after which he gave a controversial interview to a Jamaican radio channel, in which he criticised the WICB, as well as head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358, whom he
termed a “user”.
However, the tussle was resolved earlier this year, with a meeting held between Gayle and the WICB officials, at which Gayle’s representative http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Julian-Robert-Hunte-c69628, WICB director Elson Crick, the Board's legal officer Alanna Medford were
present, along with Ralph Gonsalves (Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines) and Baldwin Spencer (Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda). Consequently, Gayle has been included in the squad for the limited-overs leg of the England tour.
The Jamaican all-rounder brings with him the experience of a career which spans 228 ODIs, with 8087 runs at an average of 39.06 to his credit. He also has a reputation as a formidable T20 batsman, having played a total of 127 matches in the format, and having
participated in both the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier League (during which he played for the Barisal Burners) and the Indian Premier League (in which he was among the top batsmen, and played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore).
“He has been doing well in IPL and all over,” Pollard pointed out. “It is now a matter of transforming it to West Indies cricket ... I am sure he is willing and ready to do that so hopefully we can go out there as a team and do well.”
