Gayle will need to adapt to our hardworking environment: Sammy – Cricket News Update
While claiming that he would be pleased if Chris Gayle rejoined the squad, West Indies captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 insisted that the Jamaican batsman would need to fit into the culture of hard work that is prevalent in the team’s dressing room.
The 32-year-old hasn’t played international cricket since a public disagreement with the West Indies Cricket Board last year. In addition to expressing displeasure at being dropped from the playing XI for several fixtures during a home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755,
the batsman also went on to give an interview to KLAS Sports, during which he was highly critical of head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RR-Sarwan-c2371.
Since then the all-rounder has been involved in tournaments such as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier League, and most recently the 5th edition of the Indian Premier League, in which he has been playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Recently, however, Gayle’s spat with the board appears to have ended, with the left-hander having expressed his commitment to playing for the West Indies.
The prospect of his return to the squad has pleased the current skipper, who claims that as captain he will be glad to welcome anyone to the team, but Sammy also maintained that the argument between Gayle and the board was not an issue for the team anymore,
as they were focusing on regaining their form.
“I am more focused on what the team is trying to do,” Sammy said. "The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 issue has been going on for a while but we as a team have moved on and as you could see the last series we played we came out with a new attitude: where we are not going to
let anybody keep us down. We are going to strive to move forward.”
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, after a bad patch during which the team struggled with bad form and politics, managed a competitive showing against the visiting Australian team last month, and Sammy insisted that the team was looking to continue the upward trend.
“When Chris joins the set-up, he will be coming into a very hardworking environment in which he has to fit in,” he said. However, he also went on to add that Gayle’s inclusion in the squad would be good for the team, and hoped he would contribute to furthering
the cause of West Indies cricket.
