-- Problem here is I failed maths with an overall D which in my exam I got an auctual C and on my courseworks D,E with a grade( D ) final. I was hoping to study something to do with science including Biology and Chemistry..but in order to study A levels you need 6 GCSE passes A*-C including Maths,English.. which in this case maths No.) I've been told there is a chance my school will allow me to retake maths because my grades are more than they need. As i got 85% in my maths exam i was thinking there is no need for me to retake all over but to redo my courseworks which now i think is impossible because from 2009 onwards maths edexcel will require no coursework but 100% exams....So my question here is,would i still be able to retake only coursework or what..?

  1. you would either do your ALevels and do your maths aswell or do a different course like a Btech or something which doesnt require maths and take gcse maths.

but most colleges wont let u take a A level unless u do your maths first.

and gcse maths last for one year in college and you have to do maths all over!

  2. sorry it's hard to say. you'd have to ask your school. but wow you must be good at philosophy! lol it's a shame you don't really get paid for being a "philosopher"...

actually, re-reading your problem- i think you should be able to as resits are done in november 2008 (at my school anyway)

but unfortunately i have a feeling you aren't allowed to resit just the cwk or just the exam. i think i recall being told you have to take the whole gcse again- in which case you may well be better of waiting until 2009 because then you needn't bother with cwk.

ask your school's exams' officer and your maths teacher. i'm sure they'll have a solution :) good luck

  3. I got a D for my Maths GCSE results today also! I'm going to re-take mine.

I was told you can re- sit the exams early, but i'm not sure when the earliest time to sit it is! =/ ...

I think for re-takes, it would still be similar to how it was when you done your Maths GCSE exam.

  4. You may not have to re-do the course-work but sit the exam that has replaced coursework
