  1. I did the English paper yesterday and I found it hard but for Thursday she should answer question 3 first as it is worth 27 marks (like question 3 on the paper 1).

Question 1 is worth 13 marks and 2 is worth 14 so the last one is definitely best ot tackle first!

    Good luck to her!

(PS: she shouldn't worry but it may affect her grade in the end as they add them all together with UMS points or something)

  2. Not necessarily, I think it's possible to get a 'C' with 45% now.  No point in panicing about it,  decide what to do when you get the result.  There's always evening classes or resits.

  3. My daughter currently taking GCSE's says to read through and circle the questions that will be easier to answer, or look for the ones with the highest marks.  Too late for this advice, but may help with other exams.

  4. You told her right - she shouldn't worry, especially if she passed her coursework. With all exams but especially English you don't know how you've done until you get the results. I went into a major panic over my English Literature paper a couple of weeks ago, but there's no point in worrying about it as the stress could have a negative impact on the rest of her GCSEs! Good luck with poems tomorrow I have that as well, I'm sure that if she paces herself and keeps an eye on the time she will be fine.

  5. I too had my English Paper 1 yesterday, and from what I could gather quite a few people didn't completely finish. The trouble is is that the biggest mark scoring question is in section B of the paper questions 3, 4 and 5, worth 27 marks. It doesn't mean you would necessarily fail by only getting halfway through question 2, but it will affect your grade quite severely.

  6. i did the english exam yesterday and i didnt do the last question either. i was worried at first but i think if my overall grade goes down a lot because of this i will retake in november which could be an option for her if she is worried.

but coursework is 40% (20% writing and 20% speaking)

and each exam is worth 30%

    the first question has 13marks

    the second has 14 marks

and the third has 27 marks

so if she did well on the first two questions and does well on the poems exam then it is still possible to get a B for the overall grade!

  7. ooh thats what happend to me, i was writing so much for first 2 questions i forogot to write for 3rd lol

but i dont think we will fail. we just have to do VERY good for Second paper tomorro.

    good luck

  8. she won't fail, but she will lose marks for not attempting to answer ALL the questions.

I'm not sure of the exact marks but i think each question is worth something like 50 marks, so she might get 37 out of 50 for one question, but will get 0 out of 50 for not writing anything for the third question - do you see?

  9. NOT QUANTITY, QUALITY!! ITS DOESNT MEAN ANYTHING YET AS LONG AS AHE ANSWERS THE ONES SHE DID REALLY WELL THEN THE SCORES WITH BE ADDED TO HER COURSEWORK SCORE AND THATS WHATS GIVES HER THE SCORE OF F,E,D,C,B,A AND BECAUSE SHE ANSWERS HALF OF QUESTION 2 IF SHE DONE THAT HALF REALY WELL SHE CAN STILL GET HALF MARKS

    EVERY LITTLE HELPS

    GOOD LUCK

  10. I just about finished my English exam in time yesterday, but i did the same as your daughter on my mock and i managed to get a c.

  11. No i doubt she will fail, if she got good grades on her coursework. She will just get fewer marks because she didnt answer one of the questions. They arent that bad though as i didnt finish the last question on my english literature paper but i still managed to get a B.

Tell her i said good luck and not to worry, it just makes it worse! xxxx
