Good Evening Sir, For any visitor most of India is safe and especially South India, where amongst Indians,Southerners  are more law abiding. As long as your papers are correct and your intentions are to visit and enjoy the places and people you are always welcome. People are friendly and in most of the major cities they understand a smattering of Urdu/Hindi,and English is a link language and is understood by even people of lower strata. If you are visiting major cities, like any other cities of the world you have the good and the bad parts and since most of the 3* hotels are in good places you need not worry about that. For your travel and stay it is better to approach the govt tourism dept or reputed travel agents. Welcome and a happy stay.

Of course. If you have valid visa and follow rules related to it you are 100% safe. Be a part of normal crowd and dont roam around at late nights just as a precaution. otherwise, even night also a family is safe.
