Gear changing /mph?

i own a 1973 honda 350 four ,...i know that its one down 4 up but what im not very sturdy with is what is the safe gear changing at a certain rpm or mph?? what is the right time to shift into each gear ?? example: 1-20mph=1st gear,then..?

  1. There is no "right" speed to change gears.  It all depends on how fast you want to accelerate (upshift later for more power & speed).  So long as you change before the rpm hits redline, you should be fine.  It is more a matter of personal style.  Get a feeling for your own bike -- and change gears when you want to.  Don't listen to any manual or other person here about the "right" time to change.  It is about you, and how you like to ride.
