Question:

Gear oil in whirlpool washer?

I laid my washer on it's front to remove the leaking pump from the bottom (it is a whirlpool ultimate care II). I left it there overnight and noticed a puddle of gear oil the next day (maybe 3 - 4 ounces). Is there a fill hole to replace it? How do know how much? Also, how do I get the "cover" off of the machine so that /i am not attempting all of this work through the bottom? Thanks.

  1. do not worry about it.

  2. On your console there should be two screws.  One on the left and one on the right.  They s***w in at about a 45 degree angle.  These screws could be on the front of the console or on the rear console.  Once you remove the screws you will be able to flip up the console.  Now that the console is flipped up, you can remove the two clips holding the back on to the main cabinet.  These clips are are brass looking.  Disconnect these clips and the connection going to the lid switch.  With these undone, you can now remove the whole cabinet.  Just tilt the cabinet back and slide off.  The reason your transmission leaked is because there is a tiny hole on the top of the trans housing and when you laid it on its front some of the oil leaked out.  If your washer sounds normal during agitation and spin, your transmission is fine.
