Gear shifter problems?

Ok il try my best to describe this problem. I've got a full suspension mountain bike. 21 Gears. It has on one (I think they're called gear shifters) 1-2-3-4-5-6 And on the other 1-2-3. On the 1-2-3 one, the thing you turn to move it has no grip on the handlebar. Its just sliding round. Is they're a s***w i need to tighten or would some super glue do it?

Thanks

  1. first of all, this sounds like a 18 speed bike

  2. there is probably a s***w missing. do not use superglue because it is a GEAR therefor you wouldnt be able to move it. this happens to my bike sometimes but its not missing a s***w, sometimes i just have to hit it to make it stay in gear. if nothing works there should be a local sports shop where you could ask about it :)

  3. You're describing an 18 speed ( 3x6=18 ). Should be a small allen s***w on the twist shifter collar that needs tightening .
