Question:

Gears needed in order to reduce noise?

I have a plastic gear box about 5 inches in length driven by a small electric motor. The gears are plastic. When the motor powers the drive and turns the shaft everything works fine, but there is a loud whine that comes from the gear box due to the use of plastic non-helical gears. Where can I find replacement gears that will reduce the noise or how else can I reduce the noise generated from the gear box.

Images of the gears can be found at:

Please help. Thank you.

  1. I doubt you will find exact replacement gears.

Lots of heavy grease is all I can suggest, or a new gearbox.
