Gears of War 3 sells 3-million copies in first seven days! Breaks previous Gears of War record!
Epic Games and Microsoft are both smiling from ear to ear after the latest figures showed that Gears of War 3 sold an astronomical 3-million units in its opening week.
While it may not have broken the industry record of raking in $650-million in its first week, the honour for that feat goes to Activison and their title Call of Duty: Black Ops, as the sales figure is impressive despite the fact Gears of War 3 is a single
platform game.
It is just the kind of boost Microsoft needed as it seemed Sony were running away in the exclusive title division, but Gears of War 3 seems to have made up more than just a little ground in that area.
The scary, or rather exciting thing is that 19% of 5,000 gamers in United States wish to purchase a copy of the game during the holiday season, which means those figures are set to rise even further In another equally staggering fact, Epic Games and Microsoft
have earned over $1-billion in revenue from the franchise in total and counting.
The praise does not seem to end for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 exclusive title as the publisher proudly boasted that the game managed to earn over 50 ‘Perfect’ scores for critics and review sites alike. Something not many games can claim to have done.
Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President, had a metaphorical tear in his eye when he stated, “Fears of War was the first killer app for the Xbox 360, and the series has continued to contribute directly to the overall success of the platform ever
since.”
After proudly reminiscing of the past, Mr. Spencer went on to state facts of the present and the future with just as much, if not more, pride, “Gears of War 3 kicked off the biggest Christmas period in Xbox history, setting the standard for the kind of amazing,
action-packed experiences gamers should expect on Xbox 360 this year.”
It seems the success of Gears of War 3 has brought a renewed sense of optimism at Microsoft, which had come under some criticism following their shambolic E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) Press Conference and the Kinect disaster that is House of Nightmares.
The game has not only hit the mark in the financial area of the park, but fans and critics alike have taken the game in very fond fashion. The improvements in the co-operative multiplayer and the enhanced horde mode also mean the game should be in the disc
tray for weeks, if not months, to come. All in all, it seems that Gears of War has signed off in the best manner possible: with everyone satisfied.
