Gears of War Judgment – Video Games Update
Source claims that Microsoft will be bringing out the prequel to the hit Gears of War franchise, Gears of War: Judgment, around February 2013.
Gears of War is the very successful series exclusive to the Xbox 360 developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft. The fourth installment in the series, Judgment, which is a prequel to the main trilogy, is being developed by the Polish developer behind
the cult hit Painkiller games, People Can Fly.
Epic Games acquired the developer in 2007. People Can Fly previously worked with Epic games to create the over the top action first person shooter Bulletstorm which was multi-platform and published by Electronic Arts.
The Gears of War franchise has sold over 18 million copies with the three games released so far this generation making the series one of the biggest ‘over the shoulder third person cover based action’ shooter in the market.
Microsoft, as always, refused to comment on speculation saying in an interview to CVG, “We have not made any announcements updating launch timing for Gears of War: Judgment beyond early 2013. Stay tuned for new details about Gears of War: Judgment to be
revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, July 12-15.”
Fans of the series are concerned as this will be the first Gears game that is not internally developed at Epic Games but outsourced to another developer as Epic Games oversees the project development. However, Epic has assured the fans that the game is in
good hands.
Microsoft/Epic Games has only revealed a CGI trailer for the game at this year’s e3 and showed some multi-player game-play. The multi-player footage shown at e3 did not impress. It looked more like a multi-player mode downloadable content add-on for Gears
of War 3 rather than a new game.
According to Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski, Judgment will be nothing like the previous gears game. "Now you have no chainsaw and now you have no monsters, and now we're not
Gears of War anymore," said Cliff in an interview with Joystiq. How will the fans react to such drastic changes? He said the games these days are getting to soft and easy to beat.
People Can Fly is looking into that and Judgment is going to be the hardest Gears of War game yet. Look forward to some new information about the game from Microsoft at the San-Diego Comic-con.
