I'll be Q, you be A.

I have a female leopard gecko and have heard you need to dust her food with a calcium supplement, and I know this is true, as we had a class anole one time and she died, we think from lack of calcuim (she was in with a male, and no one WE new could do an autopsy), but I was wonderings, so here's my Q:

If you have a dish filled with calcuim in your Leo's tank, does it NEED to have it's food dusted, or is it smart enough to just l**k it when it needs the calcium?

  1. I have had my leopard gecko for 5 years now and she is still going strong.  I tried the powedered calcium when she was little but it was a pain.  I struggled to get the powder on the crickets and she woudnt eat the calcium out of the dish.  But we found something that works a  lot better it is this greenish blue gel called gutload.  You feed this to your crickets and it will help keep them alive longer and give them more calcium.  Therefore when your gecko eats the crickets she gets more calcium.  There is also another kind of gutload I would reccommend it has several different vitamins and minerals in it  here is the link it is available at petco.

  2. My male eats straight out of the dish but my female takes no notice of it. I dust my insects for both to be sure that they're recieving the correct amount. I suggest you dust your geckos insects to be on the safe side, dust the every other day, you should also dust them in vitamin powder at least twice weekly.

  3. I would dust them just incase the gecko doesn't want to l**k from the dish.

  4. you shoul dust it crickets with calcium ,because it will rarely go eat calcium in its dish.I have 16 leopard geckos and i only saw one of them who eat calcium in a dish.If you don't give them calcium it could become sick.

  5. i do both and my leopard gecko accepts both

  6. i too have a female leopard gecko bit i have only dusted the crickets once or twice

i have had her for almost 4 years

  7. My sister has a leo and she just keeps the dish of calcium in her tank for her. She doesn't dust the cickets with it.

  8. Well i would suggest it cause they might just not l**k the calcium from the dish and also if yours doesnt l**k from the calcium dish then it might get desieses. So i suggest you just geta plastic wrap bag and dump crickets inside with the powder and shake. So better safe then sorry.

  9. usually its a good measure to dust her food with a reptile multivitamin at least 2-3 times a week and a plain calium supplement 2 times week but not on the same day as the multivitamin. i would also reccomne d leaving a small milk bottle cap filled with a little calcium supplement as leos will learn to take that when they feel they need it. this will make sure that the female is getting plenty of calcium and wont suffer from mdb or other calcium deficiency diseases.

p.s i was just curious as to what your set up was for your anoles.
