Question:

Geckos and a Chinchilla?

So I have my chinchilla's habitat developed in a corner of the house, and it's built up with all the usual levels and toys and such so that he can play when I'm not around to let him out. Recently I had a party and some geckos got into the apartment and are taking over his habitat.

For those of you who are unaware Marvin is very passive. I'd take care of the problem myself but I want him to learn to stand up for himself. I've already given him a red bandana, let him watch the entire Rambo and Die Hard series, I've been playing the Rocky theme song for him before I go to work, what else can I do to motivate him to kick some gecko tail?

  1. Ok get real! its an animal! He doesnt have to fight if he doesnt want to! Just take them off and leave the poor creature alone! How would u like it if u were less than a foot and a gorrilla came to u! U would be scared, not worrying about fighting them!

  2. What's his favorite thing? He must have a toy he particularly likes. Take it away, give it to the best looking gecko and then pay a lot of attention to the lizard. Maybe take some photos, have your friends make a big deal of its reptilian charms. Maybe you could find a cute girl somewhere who'd be willing to fondle a lizard holding a rodent toy (good luck with that). Point and laugh, a lot. Once you've got him thoroughly miserable give him a shot of Patron, crank Freebird and let him at those geckos. Never underestimate taunting, tequila and rock and roll when it comes to rodent behavior modification. They may be fluffy but they still have the mentality of factory workers. I know. I work with a few of their close relatives.

  3. I was SO relieved by your disclaimer!

Rambo and Die Hard are good choices, but perhaps a bit too bloody. You may want Marvin to stand up for himself, but you don't want him to become a proficient killer.

I'd suggest that you show him The Karate Kid, Sidekicks (in case you don't know, this one starred Jonathan Brandis and Chuck Norris & it's about a boy who must stand up to bullies, etc.), and the first Rocky. These should give him the encouragement he needs to stand up for himself and refuse to be bullied.

The red bandana should be the only other accoutrement he needs to become the alpha of his habitat! Voila...no more worries.
